Nisswa native Chris started brewing beer in his garage several years ago and never looked back. With lots of help from family and friends, that brewing passion turned into Big Axe Brewing Company in downtown Nisswa. Chris grew up in Nisswa and went to Nisswa Elementary school across the street and always knew that Nisswa would be the perfect place to open a brewery. Big Axe opened on May 14, 2015 as a taproom only. In 2017 Big Axe integrated the kitchen/restaurant. Now Big Axe specializes in producing a variety of full flavored, creative and freshly crafted brews and root beer and offer a fun, relaxing environment in which to enjoy them. The kitchen serves delicious soups, salads, burgers and sandwiches as well as Walleye and BBQ Wings, Brisket and Chicken.

Whether you’re catching up with an old friend, or stopping by on a Friday after a hard week of work, you’ll find the company friendly, and the food tasty and the beer cold. We also offer off-sale growlers & crowlers and a variety of great merchandise for sale as well.

We are dog friendly on our patio, and we are kid friendly everywhere. Our food and beer menus may change a bit from time to time (especially the beer) so please call ahead if there is a specific beer you’re after (218)961-2337.
